The podcast “In Bed with the Right" and a talk by Adrian Daub in Basel

On 6 January 2026, I wrote about the "Project 1933" podcast series about Germany in 1933 from the "In Bed with the Right" podcast with Stanford professor Adrian Daub and "Guardian" journalist Moira Donegan. Since then, I have kept listening to new and archival episodes of the podcast, which have

From the Vaults: Andrew Sullivan, Part 1 | Podcast Episode on RSS.com

Happy Holidays from In Bed with the Right!!! Unfortunately, the festive season has gotten away from us and the two remaining episodes on our schedule are absolute monsters (the two-hour final (!) installment of Project 1933, and our episode on the media hubbub around "American Canto"), so to tide you over while we record and edit we thought we'd do a re-release of one of our Patreon magna opera from the Patreon. So this week, feast your ears on Part 1 (today) and Part 2 (Thursday) of our deep dive into the life and times of Andrew Sullivan -- editor, blogger, Iraq War hawk, and noted gender conservative! Our deep dive is -- fair warning -- about 3 hours long. But we felt Sullivan -- who is, as Moira put it, sort of "gender conservatism's Forrest Gump" -- was worth spending time with. He intersects with so many strands and trends, so many institutions and pathologies of the last forty years. Specifically, we're going through his complicated work by focusing on specific texts, by situating them in their moment and explaining their legacy. This first episode covers Sullivan's early years, 1980 - 1996: Oxford, Harvard, The New Republic, The Bell Curve, and Virtually Normal. If you like what you've heard, and you haven't already, consider subscribing to our Patreon at patreon.com/InBedWiththeRight! We have a lot of cool episodes coming up, including the aforementioned one on NuzziGate, RFK Jr., and structures of impunity.

"[The President] ... took to Truth Social, his proprietary social media platform, to post an AI-generated video of himself. In the cartoon, Trump – wearing a crown – flies a fighter jet over the No Kings protests, and dumps feces on the protesting citizens. It was a peevish, petulant little display of contempt ..."

This is why satire is dead. You can't be ridiculous enough for people to be sure you're not serious.

The massive No Kings protests may mark a new American political posture

The violence Republicans seemed to want did not materialize. Instead the event showcased liberal-democratic consensus

“The same values that make us horrified at his violent death are the ones that should embolden our commitment to defeating the politics he worked for in life.” -#MoiraDonegan

It’s hypocrisy to whitewash a life that called for violence, reduced personhood, because we feel ill at ease with the results of violence, reduced personhood—death. Death makes life meaningful, it can’t make life fanciful. It removes everything, including fancy and pretense. #uspol #charliekirk

Charlie Kirk’s killing was a tragedy. But we must not rewrite his life

In the wake of horror, honest accountings of his life have not only become rare – they have also become dangerous

Time is running out for Kamala Harris to break with Biden on the Gaza catastrophe

Biden’s approach to Israel has been disastrous, both morally and strategically – and it could cost Harris dearly

Anti-choice states aren’t satisfied. Now they want to punish traveling for abortions

A husband who doesn’t want his wife to get an abortion could sue the friend who offered to drive her, according to this legislation’s own architect

The unwanted Spanish soccer kiss is textbook male chauvinism. Don’t excuse it

This kind of behavior is a way to contradict women’s achievements, and knock them down

Of the criminal cases against Trump, Georgia’s may be the most important

If Trump loses again in 2024, he faces not only embarrassment but the prospect of jail time. We should all fear what he might do to avoid it

Trump’s indictment proves he might not be bright, but he is dangerous

Donald Trump’s frantic, cynical and preposterous attempts to hang on to power after losing the 2020 election were a dark moment in US history

Talk about weaponizing state power!! Republicans are such hypocrites, it makes me ill. They are so proud of their 10 commandments, you'd think they would not "bear false witness", but of course they are religious only when it serves their agenda.

Caitlin Bernard deserves a statue for her service. Instead, she’s been harassed and persecuted
