Tonga’s Mikaele Ahomana wins Mister World 2019 talent competition, sings ‘Bless the Broken Road’

Mikaele Ahomana, 24, of Tonga will be one of the Top 12 semi-finalists of Mister World 2019. He earned the spot on August 21, 2019 by winning one of the fast track events, which is the talent and creativity competition.

Among the 72 candidates of Mister World 2019, five were chosen to compete in the final round of the talent competition. Ahomana competed against Jack Heslewood, 27, of England, Ashley Peternella, 27, of the Netherlands, Radityo Senoputro, 21, of Indonesia, and Nelson Enwerem, 23, of Nigeria.

Senoputro performed magic tricks and Heslewood played the drums while Peternella and Enwerem danced. They were all outperformed by Ahomana who sang the country song “Bless the Broken Road.”

Co-written by Marcus Hummon, Bobby Boyd, and Jeff Hanna in 1994, “Bless the Broken Road” has been recorded by several county music artists. Ahomana’s version is close to that of the country vocal group Rascal Flatt, which was released in 2005.

This made Ahomana the third candidate to enter the semi-finals via fast track events. The first two were Fezile Mkhize, 28, of South Africa and Wayne Walsh, 28, of Ireland, who won the sports and extreme challenges, respectively.

A music lover, Ahomana writes songs and plays the piano, the guitar, the base and ukulele. He is the first ever Mr. World candidate from Tonga.

Ahomana hails from Tonga’s capital Nuku’alofa. Among the tourist attractions in the place are the Ha’amonga ‘a Maui Trilithon, the Talamahu Market, the Ha’atafu Beach, the Hufangalupe Archway and Hihifo’s Archaeological Sites.

While Ahomana was born in Tonga, he grew up in Aotearoa, New Zealand. He currently works as a machine operator and a forklift driver and he speaks Tongan and English.

On August 23, 2019, Mr. World 2016 Rohit Khandelwal, 29, of India will crown his successor at the Mr. World 2019 coronation night at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. It will be the 10th edition of the international male beauty pageant.

Mr. World 2019 marks the first time the pageant is held in the Philippines. If Ahomana wins the crown, he will be the pageant’s first titleholder from Tonga.
