Watching Yukio Ninagawa’s 8 hour theatre marathon ‘The Greeks’ (グリ一クス). It’s a version of John Barton’s even longer classical Greek play sequence.

It stars Rei Asami (Andromache), Kayoko Shiraishi (Clytemnestra) and Misako Watanabe (Hecuba) amongst others. My beloved Mira Anju plays Helen of Troy!

Lots of deaths! They really must have got through a helluva lot of fake blood!

I finally got hold of a VHS-to-DVD recorder and converted the Mira Anju VHS tapes I've bought.

I'd never used one of these machines before so left it on the 'LP' recording quality pre-set.

I'm viewing the DVDs on a 55'' TV, using zoom to get rid of the tracking lines from the VHS; so the visual quality is quite poor.

Is it worth re-doing the tapes using the 'SP' recording option? Would it really make that much difference?

OK, so I know everyone else has surely been aware of this for years but Google Lens is incredible!

I can hold my phone over a book in Japanese and read it as though it were written in (slightly mangled) English.

I am now half way through a book (すがおのえんぜる) by Mira Anju (from her Takarazuka days) that I’d previously only managed the first chapter of (and even that was a huge struggle).
