CF Signals: 42 – Event Horizon [Sonic Perception]

‘Dhāraṇā’ is the Sonic Perception label’s upcoming original compilation, conceived around the idea of focus, sustained attention, and concentrated expression. More than a conventional Various Artists release, the project operates as a space of convergence where each producer develops a personal voice while remaining connected to a larger collective flow. The listening experience unfolds like an extended state of attention: rhythms stretching through time, textures reshaping perception from within, and atmospheres turning space itself into something dense, fluid, and constantly shifting.

The compilation brings together 17 producers from India’s underground electronic circuit, constructing a shared narrative rooted in deep, hypnotic, and highly textural electronic music. Each contribution introduces a distinct approach to groove, spatiality, and sonic architecture, yet all remain linked through the same immersive logic. There is no search for immediate impact here — only the patient construction of tension, depth, and perceptual continuity.

In many ways, the release also reflects the current state of India’s electronic underground: a scene expanding without sacrificing complexity, capable of sustaining adventurous and emotionally precise work while remaining fully connected to the dancefloor. The label’s curation succeeds precisely because it transforms diversity into a common language, allowing every track to breathe independently while reinforcing the larger architecture of the compilation.

So far, ‘Dhāraṇā’ stands as the label’s most ambitious project, both conceptually and sonically. That careful curation becomes evident not only in the artist selection, but in the way the release manages energy, density, and movement across its full duration. The compilation never feels like a collection of isolated tracks, but rather like a living system of shared resonances.

One of those seventeen producers is 42, based in Mumbai, who contributes “Event Horizon”, arguably one of the most intriguing moments within the release. The track unfolds through a sound that feels fearless and agile while remaining strangely fresh, as though crossing electric savannahs suspended somewhere between physical deserts and digital underworlds. Percussion advances with controlled precision while luminous sequences and metallic textures gradually reorganize the space into increasingly deeper layers.

The resulting duality becomes especially powerful: heat and coldness, organic matter and synthetic architecture, physical propulsion and mental drift coexisting inside the same sonic current. The track feels as though it is moving simultaneously toward the future and toward a forgotten electronic memory, constructing a landscape where the human and the machinic can no longer be clearly separated.

Within that tension lies the true strength of “Event Horizon.” Not through excess, but through meticulous control over its internal movement. Everything remains in constant mutation: grooves folding into themselves, textures breathing slowly, and frequencies opening microscopic fractures inside perception. The result is a hypnotic and expansive piece that confirms 42’s ability to transform rhythmic pressure into deeply layered sensory experience.

CF Signals: Inez Akker – No Pretzels Today [Equal]

There are collaborations in contemporary techno that function through aesthetic compatibility, and others that operate through something far rarer: the controlled friction between two distinct sensibilities that ultimately strengthen each other. EQUAL014 clearly belongs to the latter category. The release brings together Fractious, a long-established figure within raw and hypnotic UK techno, and Inez Akker, the Spanish-rooted, Amsterdam-based artist whose approach to groove and emotional tension has been quietly solidifying within the Dutch underground scene since 2018.

On one side, Fractious contributes the architecture of sustained pressure that has defined releases on labels such as Special Series, KD RAW, and RAW WORX — modulated synthesizers that seem to slide beneath the skin and percussion that advances like perfectly calibrated industrial machinery. On the other, Inez Akker introduces a different dimension altogether: one centered on internal groove propulsion, hypnotic storytelling, and a way of constructing movement that avoids immediate impact in favor of gradual psychological immersion. What makes the release compelling is that neither language attempts to overpower the other. Its strength emerges precisely from that unstable balance.

Within that dialogue, “No Pretzels Today” stands out as a perfect demonstration of Akker’s sonic sophistication. The track opens with a vibration that feels simultaneously piercing and velvet-like, as though its roughest frequencies had been carefully refined into tactile surfaces. Everything unfolds with almost architectural precision: the percussion never crashes into the mix aggressively, but instead settles slowly into a warm and deeply absorbing texture.

The hypnotic induction develops gradually, delicately, almost invisibly. Nothing feels abrupt or forced; trance emerges like a silent infiltration of body and perception. Grooves move patiently while subtle modulations continuously reshape the internal space of the track, expanding it toward increasingly deep and abstract territories. There is an ongoing sensation of temporal distortion, as though the track itself were bending linear time through repetition and sustained tension.

Then something even stranger begins to happen: the track opens perceptual fractures. Near Rosen-Einsteinian bridges slowly emerge between metallic layers, warm pulsations, and suspended resonances. Reality itself seems to reorganize around the groove — not through chaos, but through an extraordinarily refined hypnotic precision. “No Pretzels Today” does not seek impact through excess or violence; its power comes precisely from the opposite: absolute control, sensory depth, and a dark elegance that lingers long after the sound has faded.

Without exaggeration, this is one of the most finely constructed tracks we have encountered in recent weeks.
