This is a 31st Reinforcements cap badge from the First New Zealand Expeditionary Force (NZEF). The scroll on the badge reads in Māori 'Whakatangata' and below 'Kia Kaha'. The first roughly translates to 'acquit yourselves like men', the second meaning 'be strong'.
