Traveller has just published online a piece I wrote about the Vinelander train excursion to Mildura. Enjoy!
(Also they used my photo of a vanilla slice, which I'm very pleased with.)
The line ahead: where the past of the rail meets the modern bridge.

Mildura wants Melbourne's controversial Yellow Peril sculpture. I reckon they should have it.
Vault is the official name for it, but Melburnians hated it so much it was called the Yellow Peril when it was first installed (plonked?) in the centre of the city in 1980. It was removed after a howl of disapproval from the denizens of this fine city.
When I went for a walk one day decades later, I was astonished to discover it had been tucked away behind the arts centre precinct. I don't think many people know it is there, and in that place it receives little appreciation (or disapproval). For such a controversial thing back the it looks almost forlorn sitting largely unnoticed in its place of banishment.
Mildura features a sculpture in a similar style by the same artist - Ron Robertson-Swann. Vault would be placed in a prominent place like it was intended to be in Melbourne. I reckon it should go to a place that appreciates it more. Melbourne will hardly notice its disappearance and already has plenty of art that it actually appreciates.
New at my Patreon... The T&G was founded in 1876 and became one of Victoria's biggest insurance companies. As it expanded, it built branches that shared similar elements, particularly a stepped ziggurat-style tower emblazoned with the letters 'T&G'. Though the insurance company is no more, its distinctive architecture lives on:
