Con una trattativa serrata tenuta a Washington, e a poche ore dalla scadenza della tregua, Israele e Libano hanno trovato un’intesa per prorogare il cessate il fuoco di altre tre settimane. Ad annunciarlo sul social Truth Social è il presidente degli Stati Uniti, Donald Trump, secondo cui “l’incontro tra le due delegazioni è andato molto bene”, assicurando inoltre che “gli Stati Uniti lavoreranno con il Libano per aiutarlo a proteggersi da Hezbollah”.
Al vertice, secondo quanto trapela, sarebbe stata fondamentale la mediazione del vicepresidente statunitense J.D. Vance, del segretario di Stato Marco Rubio e dell’ambasciatore Usa in Israele Mike Huckabee, che sarebbero riusciti a convincere le parti ad accettare l’accordo.

Soddisfatti per l’intesa anche l’ambasciatore israeliano negli Usa Yechiel Leiter, secondo cui Israele e Libano “non sono mai stati così vicini come oggi”, e che ha aggiunto che le parti “andranno avanti lavorando per la pace. Speriamo di ottenerla il prima possibile”, e l’ambasciatrice libanese negli Stati Uniti Nada Hamadeh Moawad, che ha parlato di un “momento storico” capace di rafforzare la speranza che “il Libano possa tornare grande”.
Tutto risolto? Macché. Dopo qualche ora, infatti, da Tel Aviv sono arrivate dichiarazioni diametralmente opposte. Come affermato alla CNN dall’ambasciatore israeliano alle Nazioni Unite, Danny Dannon, l’accordo di cessate il fuoco in Libano “non è sicuro al 100%”. “Devo essere sincero: il governo libanese non ha alcun controllo su Hezbollah, che sta lanciando razzi nel tentativo di sabotare il cessate il fuoco. E Israele deve reagire. Ogni volta che percepiamo una minaccia, agiamo”, ha precisato il diplomatico, paventando, prima o poi, il fallimento della tregua con il conseguente ritorno alle ostilità.

With a tense negotiation held in Washington, and just hours before the truce expired, Israel and Lebanon have reached an agreement to extend the ceasefire for another three weeks. U.S. President Donald Trump announced this on his social media platform Truth Social, stating that “the meeting between the two delegations went very well,” and assuring that “the United States will work with Lebanon to help it protect itself from Hezbollah.”

At the summit, according to leaks, the mediation of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee was crucial, as they were able to convince the parties to accept the agreement.

Trump announced the extension of the three-week truce between Israel and Lebanon. But the Netanyahu government is skeptical: “The agreement will not hold.”

Satisfied with the agreement are also the Israeli ambassador to the U.S., Yechiel Leiter, who states that Israel and Lebanon “have never been so close as today,” and that he added that the parties “will continue to work for peace. Last Thursday, in the Bedouin village of Tayasir, CNN photojournalist Cyril Theophilos was documenting Israeli settlers’ attacks on Palestinians when soldiers from the Netzah Yehuda battalion intervened. One immobilized him with a neck hold, threw him to the ground, and damaged the camera. Correspondent Jeremy Diamond and the crew were detained for about two hours. Some soldiers said that all Palestinians are terrorists.

The Netzah Yehuda, 97th Battalion of the Kfir Brigade, has been under observation for years for abuses in the occupied West Bank. The Washington Post reported Sunday the conclusions of the internal investigation launched by the Israeli army. “It was a bad incident that shouldn’t have happened,” military spokesman Nadav Shoshani said. “It does not represent how our soldiers should speak or act.” The Chief of Staff suspended the operational deployment of the battalion, which will remain in reserve service undergoing an ethics and professional strengthening program.

The suspension did not come after years of reports on abuses documented in the occupied West Bank. It came when Theophilos’ camera captured the face of whoever was breaking it.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the violence of “extremist elements in Judea and Samaria” on the same day. Not the West Bank, not Cisgiordania: Judea and Samaria, the biblical name that proponents of annexation use to refer to the same territory. American Ambassador Mike Huckabee completed the redefinition on X: the violent settlers are not “settlers” but “unsettlers.” The territory remains the same. The names change depending on who can hold it.

Israel Approves Proposal To Establish Permanent US Embassy In Jerusalem

Even as the fighting against the Islamic terrorist regime of Iran continues, a major proposal to build a permanent United States embassy in the eternal capital of Jerusalem was approved by Israel, according to a news report by The Jerusalem Post.

Israel approved a proposal to allocate land at the Allenby Complex in Jerusalem for the construction of a permanent United States Embassy on Tuesday.

The approval was announced in a joint statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar, and Construction and Housing Minister Haim Katz.

Netanyahu, Sa’ar, and Katz described the building of the embassy as a “major diplomatic move” originally set in motion by US President Donald Trump’s “courageous and historic decision during his first term to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and relocate the US Embassy there.”

The establishment of the permanent embassy will serve as a “tangible, central, and long-term expression of the US’ commitment to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the resilience of the special relationship between the two countries,” the announcement statement continued.

Netanyahu, Sa’ar, and Katz additionally thanked US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee for his cooperation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for working to finalize the decision.
