Description and characteristics of a severe #Microsporidia infection in a batch of #salted/dried cod, approximately 800 kg Gadus macrocephalus (FAO Zone 61 - Pacific Ocean Northwest). After rehydration and sectioning, farm inspections and microscopic observation confirmed nodular lesions.
The result underlines the importance of selecting suppliers and raw materials, and of an effective traceability system

#Microsporidia use their polar tube to infect host cells. The ultrastructure of the #PolarTube reveals different states of the tube wall, transported cargo, and uniquely arranged #ribosomes along the tube wall. @shrma_h @Barandunlab &co in #PLOSBiology https://plos.io/49wNKyt
Ultrastructural insights into the microsporidian infection apparatus reveal the kinetics and morphological transitions of polar tube and cargo during host cell invasion

Microsporidia utilize the polar tube to transport their infectious sporoplasm from the spore to the host for infection. These authors characterize the ultrastructure and composition of the polar tube to identify different states of the tube wall, visualize transported cargo, and discover uniquely arranged ribosomes along the thin tube wall providing new insights into ribosome regulation and transport.

Comparing Microsporidia-targeting primers for environmental DNA sequencing

Metabarcoding is a powerful tool to detect classical, and well-known “long-branch” Microsporidia in environmental samples. Several primer pairs were developed to target these unique microbial parasites, the majority of which remain undetected ...
