542 following, 2361 followers · Right that's me ordered a #MikroTik cAP ax. I've only ordered one for now which will replace the UniFi AC Pro that is mounted on the upstairs landing ceiling. If I feel I need another once I'm happy with the first one then I'll fit it in the living room as I've cables run there too.

I have…… issues with how #microtik’s model of configuring routers, but there’s some form of logic there. It’s workable but, yeah, not 100% convinced by it.

So looking at my home networking, I've got three main options

1. Keep opnsense as the router, possibly even keep the switch but add a 2.5gb switch
2. Go crawling back to unifi (less likely, $$$)
3. Swap the core out with Microtik, including router and core switches

The third option is really interesting to me, but I've heard people talk about limitations that they've encountered with Microtik so I'm really curious how people feel about them and what those limitations were

If you are buying a #MicroTik router, choose one that has gigabit ports. I don't know why, but the RB951G-2HnD (gigabit) has been discontinued, but the RB951Ui-2HnD (fast ethernet) is still in production.

Finally got my hands on the #thread spec. Thread border routers must implement DHCPv6-PD. Unifi can't implement that for almost 10 years now, though (ffs #Unifi).

I could run a RouterOS in a VM (because #microtik can actually do IPv6), but the mDNS repeater is dead.

Networking is such a pain.
