Boston.com | TD Bank doubles its space amid return-to-office push by Beth Treffeisen

AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.

TD Bank is expanding its Boston footprint by signing a 10‑year lease for nearly 39,000 sq ft across two floors of International Place, roughly double the space it occupies at 200 State St. and enough for about 140 employees. The move follows the bank’s mandate, announced last year, that executives work in the office four days a week and that other staff adopt a similar schedule, reflecting a broader return‑to‑office push seen at firms like Fidelity, JPMorgan Chase and Eastern Bank. Mayor Michelle Wu welcomed the increased downtown traffic, noting its benefits for local businesses, while data shows Boston office visits rose 11.2 % in March but remain well below pre‑pandemic levels. TD Bank, the sixth‑largest bank in North America with over 100,000 employees and $68 billion in revenue last year, is adding more teams to the newly renovated International Place building as part of this strategy.

#MillionaireTax That Inspired #Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in #Massachusetts

By Greg Ryan
October 21, 2025

Excerpt: "Boston Mayor #MichelleWu — whom Mamdani has called a role model — recently chastised executives for complaining about the tax. She contends that the region’s talent pool and livability are more important to its economic competitiveness.

"Many high-income taxpayers are staying in the Boston area despite the tax hike."

Boston election Nov. 4 2025: District 9 endorsements

Tomorrow is a municipal election in the city of Boston. Municipal elections matter. If you live in Boston you should be voting in every primary, every preliminary election, every election, every year.

Here are my endorsements for tomorrow’s election in District 9 and city-wide.

Michelle Wu is running unopposed, so whether you vote for her doesn’t “matter” in the sense that it will not influence the outcome of the race. For that, I hope you voted in the preliminary election in September! In any case, you should vote for her anyway to let her know you support her. She has been a good mayor and she deserves your support.

In the District 9 City Council race, you should vote for Liz Breadon. Her opponent, Pilar Ortiz, is both decent and competent, and I look forward to voting for her in the future when she is the best candidate on the ballot, but as for this year, Liz is doing a good job and has been on the Council long enough to form important experience, connections, and alliances that Pilar doesn’t have. A little bit of inside baseball: a lot of people in Pilar’s orbit, including Mayor Wu whose administration she worked in, told her this was not the time for her to run, but for some reason that is frankly inexplicable to me, she didn’t listen.

In the at-large City Council race, I am voting for Henry Santana, Marvin Mathelier, Ruthzee Louijeune, and Julia Mejia. Henry, Ruthzee, and Julia are all incumbents who have proven themselves decent and competent. Erin Murphy and Frank Baker are Trump-supporting chuds whom I wouldn’t vote for under any circumstances. I have nothing in particular against Will Onuoha or Alexandra Valdez—I think they’d probably do fine—but Mathelier has been endorsed by both Liz and Ruthzee, and I trust them and want them to have the allies they want on the Council to help them continue to make progress on their objectives, which I support.

By the way, it’s not a coincidence that none of the people I’m endorsing are white men.

It was yuuuge! Saw several helicopters and one drone flying overhead.

The MC had good energy. The music was some good, some mediocre, the speakers were "what you would expect at an event like this". There was a heckler who tried to interrupt #MichelleWu's speech. Michelle was very professional about it and completely ignored the guy, did not get distracted, made sure that she was right in the microphone so that her remarks were louder. She said various dramatic things that we were all supposed cheer after and so she paused at the right time and we cheered appropriately. So the heckler did not achieve his goals. The MC then talked about how "we don't all agree in this movement and that's okay, but we need to all be in the movement. We need to not be divided." Which was good and off-the-cuff and well spoken. Which he did a couple of other times on different topics.

I was so happy to hear that #MichelleWu would be running on the ballot unopposed in November that I let out a great big Wu-hoo!
I'm very much in favor of incumbents defending their positions against worthy challengers, but (a) Wu already did that in the preliminary election and (b) IMO there were no worthy challengers this year. I'd rather see her running unopposed then running against someone shitty.
