A Nevada Republican politician who ran unsuccessfully two years ago for state treasurer has been found guilty of misusing funds for a statue honoring a slain police officer for political and personal costs. KLAS-TV in Las Vegas reports that a jury on Thursday convicted Michele Fiore of six counts of federal wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Fiore will be sentenced Jan. 6. Her attorney says she will appeal the conviction. Prosecutors say Fiore raised more than $70,000 for the statue but instead spent it on plastic surgery, rent and her daughter’s wedding.

A rural Nevada judge has been suspended from hearing court cases after she was indicted on federal charges that she used funds raised for a statue of a slain police officer to pay political campaign costs and personal expenses. Michele Fiore is a Republican former Nevada Assembly and Las Vegas City Council member. She ran unsuccessfully for state treasurer in 2022. Fiore issued a statement Thursday asking for prayers and support during what she termed a distressing and challenging time. The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline suspended her on Wednesday. She has pleaded not guilty to federal wire fraud and conspiracy charges, and faces trial in September.

This woman gets appointed to be a JUDGE without ever attending law school. She knows nothing about the law, but will be responsible for making decisions on cases.
