“The Crucifixion of St. Peter” by Michelangelo

"The Crucifixion of St. Peter" is one of several frescoes created by Michelangelo for the Pauline Chapel in the Vatican, completed between 1543 and 1544. This painting depicts the martyrdom of Saint Peter, who was crucified upside down at his own request due to his unworthiness to die in the same manner as Jesus Christ. Honda carves the SH125 in marble. Thus, the “Hanami” concept is born.

Honda celebrates the 25th anniversary of the SH125 scooter with a special project that combines design, art, and material experimentation. The initiative revolves around two reinterpretations of the model: “Hanami,” a 1:1 scale marble sculpture created by Italian artist Filippo Tincolini, and the SH125i Marble concept developed by the engineers at the Honda plant in Atessa.

The SH125 has represented a key model for the Abruzzo production site since 2001, and more generally, one of the most popular scooters in the European market. To celebrate the 25th anniversary, Honda chose to build a project that reflected not only the commercial history of the popular scooter, but also the relationship between industrial design, craftsmanship, and sustainability.

The “Hanami” sculpture reproduces the scooter through a sculpture carved from a single block of marble. Tincolini reinterpreted the lines of the SH125 by working on the concept of “unfinishedness” inspired by Michelangelo: the front emerges from the stone, while the rest of the motorcycle remains embedded in the marble. The project also recalls the Japanese tradition of hanami, the observation of cherry blossom viewing, represented through sakura motifs carved onto the bodywork.

Alongside the sculpture, as mentioned, Honda developed the SH125i Marble concept, a experimental version of the scooter made with recyclable acrylic resin capable of replicating the visual effect of marble veins. The material is colored directly during the molding process, eliminating the need for traditional painting. According to Honda, this solution allows for reducing emissions, energy consumption, and production waste.

The project is accompanied by a series of videos dedicated both to the artistic processing and to the industrial activities of the Atessa plant, where Honda is pursuing initiatives related to energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. These include the use of solar energy, internal car-sharing systems, and painting processes at reduced temperatures.

The article Honda sculpts the SH125 in marble. Thus is born the concept “Hanami” comes from Il Fatto Quotidiano.

Rabbit holes

Draw Antonio, draw Antonio, draw and don’t waste time.

~ Michelangelo

Yes, I do spend a lot of time chasing white rabbits down rabbit holes.

I cannot tell if that’s because diversity of experience and exploration is central to what it means to flourish as a human being, or if I’m simply the type of person for which that is true. Which case it is doesn’t really matter since I can only deeply relate to my personal experience of being. (Recall, I’m not trying to accomplish ‘change the world’ with this blog; Rather, I’m working on self-reflection here.)

Today, an example of a rabbit hole: I have a way of reading entire web sites, one page at a time—software that keeps track of an entire web site and feeds me “the next thing” to read each day. (Aside: If you want to pay to make this a commercial product, let me know.) Today a post from some author (I’m ommiting names) came up that referenced another author’s book which quotes Michelangelo… and it only took me a few minutes to dig around the internet to figure out the quote is correct (albeit translated from Italian) and the original source is in the British Museum. Note to self: See if I can find it next time I’m there. Along the way I found a few interesting things which I shared with some friends. Along the way I learned several new things.

Along the way.

RE: https://www.psicospace.it/acqua-di-fiuggi-storia-mito-proprieta-scienza/
