ELOTE MEZCAL OF

- 2 dashes bitters
- 2 drops saline solution
- ¼ oz Ancho Reyes chili liqueur
- ¾ oz Nixta Licor de Elote
- 1½ oz mezcal

Stir // Strain // Garnish: orange twist

Last week @[email protected] was whipping up some mezcal cocktails and inspired me. This one was delish! I agree with his modifications from the source: no agave syrup needed and I simplified the build by using Ancho Reyes instead of infusing the mezcal. My mezcal is slightly overproof at 46% which helped it stand up to the other sweet ingredients. Cheers!

Tried a new #cocktail today, a #nakedandfamous, substituting #portcharlotte10 single malt #scotch for #mezcal It was very tasty… 🍸

Some thoughts and comments

The Nixta would be good in #tiki style drinks - there's an unctousness and cinnamon hint that could work well.
(Nixta is sweetened with piloncillo too so that's a good match already)

My apologies to true #mezcal enthusiasts - the good stuff don't need to be in cocktails - this is just Espadin (and yes not great how that cultivation is displacing wild stuff)

with just ¼ oz of the Ancho Reyes (can go lower even)
Moodeled on this Elote Old Fashioned - but with the Ancho instead of the elote sous vide in the mezcal. Skipped the agave nectar - Nixta is plenty sweet, the saline is needed.

Opening up some of my #Mexico bottle haul!
Picked up the Nixta and it has terrific long flavor - but rather sweet up front (I can see why old fashioneds with it in lieu of sugar would be great).

Tried the Palabra Caliente* #cocktail (skipped the 🍒) also with the Ancho liqueuer. Hmm this is good but less corn forward (and too much ancho but not as spicy) as I thought it would be. Used the last of my Vega elote #mezcal (Espadin) for it.
