This is what I got in the library today and hopefully what I'll read for the next few weeks.
To be honest I'm really glad they had a copy of this book there because ever since I had to do research on it at school I got curious about it.

Pedro Páramo is a classic of Mexican litterature (and, in fact, of Spanish-speaking litterature) which tells the story of a man going to a village he's never been to before, Comala, to look for his father, and who finds out that the village is far from being like his mother remembers it. Also, at around a third of the book the story goes from narrating the first protagonist's quest to narrating the life of the second one, Pedro Páramo.
Honestly it seems like a really good book to read, I've read like twenty pages of it already and I'm kinda hooked, not only thanks to its narrating style but also because it mixes a realistic context (Mexico in the 1920s I believe) and fantasy elements (for example at one point it is said the first protagonist's mother has talked to someone from the village, even though she died a week before doing so).

So much literature from Mexico that I've missed! This novel on the Mexican Revolution & the young people who get swept up in it promises to be relevant to just about every conflict we are currently surrounded by.

I haven't read Pedro Paramo since college. Fortunately my past self wrote some handy notes for my future self, including a family tree. #amreading #pedroparamo #literature #mexicanliterature

On my blog today, I've written about PEDRO PARAMO by Juan Rulfo - a remarkable, hypnotic novella of death, ghosts, visions and violence. Loved its rich imagery too.
