At #MetalSchool today, we are studying Slipknot's debut album.
Thank you to @Kitty and @HailsandAles for encouraging / reminding me to give it a crack.
There's a lot going on there, but you have to keep nine chaps busy, I suppose.

Down a djent rabbit hole today after @m1rk0 recommended MetaVoid to me.
That took me to the thall tag on Bandcamp and I followed that to False God, a one-person project from Ukraine. Some of it sounds a bit technical-for-its-own-sake, but I enjoyed it overall.
Apart from the link to djent, I had no idea what thall was in the vast metal sub-genre galaxy. I know a little bit more now, but I need to do more work before the exam.

Time to try out the new Neurosis album today after @tomroberts and @Kitty were talking about it on Sunday. I knew nothing about the band's past work or recent challenges, so this was a real #MetalSchool assignment for me.
It was pleasant enough, if that's the word. But it will take me a few listens to really decide what I think.

I've had Wolves In The Throne Room on my list ever since I saw that photo of a sausage dog wearing a denim battle vest with their patch across its back.
This was very nice, and not what I was expecting - but it does seem to be unusual in their catalogue.

Biggest surprise on the Coroner album was the jazzy Hammond organ-style keyboard on the final track Prolonging.
Did I say it's such a good album?
I need to take their first five albums to #MetalSchool.
First real listen to Lamb Of God tonight,* after I heard Fit For An Autopsy's cover of this song.
It blew me away, I have to say, so clearly I have my work cut out for me over our summer.
Also, you know you're dating a metal musician when he writes you a sweet song like this.
Also Pt. 2, I swear there's a flash of my home city in the opening montage.

* Yes, I know, what sort of metalhead hasn't heard etc etc. ๐
Trying out Fit For An Autopsy while I clean up for the next phase of exam revision. I enjoyed the set by a local deathcore act earlier this year, so the timing might be good.
(And they're playing here in two months' time, in case I'm tempted.)
Update: Tim listened to Lorna Shore with headphones.
The synth is still (too?) high in the mix but, dear reader, it blew Tim's tiny mind.

The Lorna Shore research continues. I'm surprised how prominently the synthesiser sits in the sound mix, but all the same it's the meandering guitar work that stays in my head long after listening. More headphones needed for this band. ๐ง ๐ณ https://album.link/b/970365304 #LornaShore #metal
The references to Slipknot influences on the new Orbit Culture album remind me that the whole Slipknot /Korn / Linkin Park era passed me by entirely, and I don't think I've listened to any of them, not that I'm aware of at any rate.
I'll have to do something about that I think.
Trip home today with a tasting platter of In Flames and At The Gates.
I need to listen to more of their music, but from early impressions, I'm suspecting it may not be my scene. But many bands have fans of particular albums or periods, so I'll keep going.
