I have a debate piece out about metal detectorists as citizen scientists in Sweden's foremost pop-sci magazine.

The Jönköping municipality silver hoard looters are being prosecuted. They went metal detecting on a hillside next to Ölmstad church without a plan or a permit, found a hoard, couldn't report it because they knew they'd end up in court. Eventually they came forward. Stupid activity, stupid legislation.

There might not be too many ancient coins to find in #Australia, but metal detectorists can still find some interesting things - like this Japanese 100 Mon coin uncovered from a gold rush-era campsite in Victoria: https://www.coinbooks.org/v29/esylum_v29n09.html#article19
One of my shortest articles is on one of these coins: https://coinofnote.com/japan-100-mon/

The v4.0 firmware release for the Deus II is out. I'm waiting until I get the stereo headphones. Maybe 4.1 will be out by then.
E-Sylum / BBC reports on a coin found by a metal detectorist that is the earliest known coin to be minted in Scotland: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g5n3gld45o

Medieval seal with Roman stone is a 'special find'.
A metal detectorist has discovered a "really special" medieval seal matrix, with a Roman carved gemstone at its centre.
The discovery was made at Gosfield, just north of Braintree, Essex, in September last year and has been declared treasure by a coroner.

Sweden's biggest daily newspaper runs a big feature on my collaboration with amateur metal detectorists.
This is intended as a map of Viking Period coins issued at Ribe. But it is actually a map of the Danish vs. Swedish metal detector legislation.
