🛰️ NEW SEA-ICE PRODUCT 🛰️
Our #SeaIce team at #MetNorway and #DMI has been working hard to ensure you reliable and lasting access to sea ice concentration Climate Data Record.
Today we release as demonstrational product of a new #AMSR-2 based Interim CDR (OSI-438)
Another visualisation of our Sea Ice Index includes regional visuals and dynamic figures. Have a look at https://cryo.met.no/en/sea-ice-index
We strongly advise you to scroll the index menu down, and have a try at the interactive visualizations!

Our #SeaIce team at #MetNorway and #DMI is currently working on an improved version. We will keep you up to date soon!
NSIDC is decommissioning its Sea Ice Index.
That's terrible news to read. For us documenting #SeaIce, having colleagues that share comparable data obtained by different algorithms is a form of quality assessment of our own data. It is a terrible loss for us as it is for our whole user community.
"A very short post on breaking news that will almost certainly impact Alaska and Arctic Climate science and the lives, livelihoods and economics of people." https://alaskaclimate.substack.com/p/loss-and-degradation-of-noaa-sea by @[email protected]
@stefano Super! Good job 👏
I see there is an Open Meteo API for Met Norway which covers Scandinavia. Looking forward to you covering that region and it's major capital cities.

❄️
Sea ice in the Arctic and Antarctic has reached its annual minimum and maximum, respectively.
- Low minimum in the Arctic!
- But super-low maximum in the Antarctic!!!
#METNorway has published a post on the sea-ice status (in Norwegian) 👉 https://www.met.no/nyhetsarkiv/rekordlite-sjois-i-antarktis-etter-vintersesongen.-en-urovekkende-utvikling-mener-klimaforskere
Vintersesongen på den sørlige halvkule etterlater sjøisen i en dramatisk tilstand. Lite sjøis kan påvirke temperaturen i havet, værsystemer og akselerere den globale oppvarmingen.
A week since my last #Svalbard update
and the #seaice extent is still increasing in the area 📈
after several months of really poor sea-ice conditions.

Fra #flymeteorologen på #Svalbard 😍:
"Fantastiske satellittbilder i dag. Det er ikke vanskelig å se havisen (gulaktig på bildet).
Følg med på iskartene fra #METNorway her: https://cryo.met.no/sites/cryo.met.no/files/latest/svalbard_latest.png

Good to see. #Seaice in the #Svalbard region is now at its largest extent so far this winter.
