This deep-field integration of Messier 51, also known as the Whirlpool Galaxy, represents 255 hours of exposure time to reveal the intricate gravitational interactions within a classic spiral system. Located 31 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici, this composite image highlights the tidal debris and extended stellar halos resulting from its ongoing merger with the smaller companion galaxy NGC 5195. Such extensive data collection allows astronomers to map faint hydrogen-alpha emissions and analyze the density waves driving star formation across the galactic arms. Das Wochenende war hinsichtlich der #Astrofotografie ziemlich durchwachsen. Heute Nacht ging so gut wie gar nichts. Das Primärziel ließ sich erst nicht tracken und dann zogen auch noch Wolken auf. Heißt: 1h27min für ein Ausweichmotiv kamen am Ende zusammen. Nichts Vorzeigbares.

Freitag auf Sonnabend lief schon etwas besser. 3h 49 Minuten verwertbare Belichtungszeit für Messier 51, die Whirlpool Galaxie, konnten über die Nacht gesammelt werden. Nachdem ich gut 2h an schlechten, bewölkten und Sternschnuppen „verseuchten“ Bildern nochmal händisch aussortiert und neu gesteckt hatte entspricht dies Bild 1.

Durch Zufall hatte ich noch eine ältere Aufnahme mit auf dem Speicher, sodass ich diese noch dazu stacken konnte. Das entspricht dann 11h 7 Minuten Belichtungszeit und ergibt Bild Nr. 2 der 31.000.000 Lichtjahre entfernten Galaxie. Da die ältere Aufnahme noch mit Spikemaske erfolgte, sehen die Sterne auf dem Ergebnis auch entsprechend aus (finde das Ergebnis dieser Mischung aber wirklich schön).

Als Bild 3 dann noch das einzige Foto, was am WE 100%ig nach Plan lief: Der Mond bei etwa 53% Beleuchtungsgrad. Gut, dafür braucht man auch nur 2s Belicjtubgszeit bei 404 Einzelsubs, so schnell kann hierzulande keine Wolke ziehen.
