Does anyone know GNUnet? The website states, "The internet of tomorrow needs GNUnet today." It seems to be a kind of peer-to-peer network running on top of the internet. The Meshtastic protocol, which uses low-range radio but connects nodes to each other, seems highly interesting to me.

Наконец-то окончательно «укротили» роуты (use_system_route_table). Те самые паники и вылеты, которые преследовали нас в v1.10.1 и v1.10.2, отправлены на свалку истории. v1.10.3 — «Золотой Мастер» в мире минорных патчей. Если вы ждали момента, чтобы обновиться — этот момент настал. Дальше тянуть уже просто неприлично.
(А ещё я понял разницу тире и дефис и замучался их копировать. Надо найти как печтать тире...)
Two super nice, random encounters during #FOSDEM2026 while I was wearing a @batadv hoody: Two people approached me and shared their story with @batadv. One that they've been thinking about building a #MeshNetwork in Denmark with it a few times. The other from Brazil and how ~2014 they had a lot of fun with (trying) building a bat. #mesh with 6 nodes on top of their heads during a demonstration, while the government had shut down cellular internet.
That was a great 1st #FOSDEM experience. Any devs or activists involved with #MeshNetworks up to something this evening?

@dawgeth Been looking at it and real curious. There's a decent subreddit if you're into that.
My barrier to entry is price. I see people talking about doing nodes for $20-30, but I can't seem to find a setup that doesn't require $100 and that you already own a 3D printer. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong spots, though.
I'm also a little hung up on what exactly you -do- with it. The concept of a non-corporate controlled mesh network is awesome, but it sounds like the bandwidth is minimal and all you can really do is broadcast send small texts?
I'm not intending to be negative, I'd really love someone to show me what awesome things it's allowing them to do.
