Yes, The Royal Iris has been a much loved #Mersey #Ferry but this ferry boat [See edit] has not been afloat for 67 years. The Royal Iris and the Royal Iris of the Mersey are different boats.

Our family photo album has a picture of me with a face like a slapped arse onboard the Royal Iris when I was about 6 or 7. I was in a strop, apparently, and my parents thought they'd capture the moment. 😄

I always felt fond of the Mountwood as that was the name of my house at junior school.

And when they say they're going to welcome the Royal Daffodil into the fleet later this year, there have been previous Royal Daffodils. Daffodil, like Iris, being a previous Wallasey boat made Royal following their participation in the raid on Zeebrugge in 1918 and still marked with a service of remembrance every year in April.

Edit: This boat HAS been afloat 67 yrs. It is not the Royal Iris.

Royal Iris of the Mersey ferry to be decommissioned after 67 years

The Royal Iris of the Mersey will be replaced by the new £26m Royal Daffodil later this year.

Took a wrong turn on my way to #Huyton today and ended up going over the #Mersey Gateway Bridge. Which was very pretty, but I object on principle to paying money to go near #Widnes...

A vibrant new #artwork made from thousands of #recycled plastic bottle-tops has been unveiled at #Stockport Interchange. Created by local #artist Caitlin Marie Atherton of Plastic Shed with the help of 300 volunteers, including schoolchildren, the piece depicts a River #Mersey scene with fish, ducks and a diving frog, reflecting designs contributed by the community. The #mural, the second largest of its kind in the #UK, will be permanently displayed in the bus concourse and visible from nearby Viaduct Park and passing trains. A community event marked the unveiling, attended by local officials and #Transport for Greater #Manchester representatives.
