January 2024. I'm riding a 200km brevet with my friend George, from Elefsina (near Athens) to Nemea (on the Peloponnes) and back. It's 17:00 and soon we will be riding in the dark.

But the sea next to the old national road on the coast is so beautiful … and it reminds me of childhood vacations. As I wait a moment for George to catch up, I snap some fotos.

🇫🇷 Il y a cent ans aujourd'hui naissait la femme la plus extraordinaire qu'il m'a été de connaître : ma grand-mère maternelle (qui était aussi ma marraine). Je peux même dire qu'elle a été une mère pour moi et sans elle, je ne serais pas ce que je suis aujourd'hui! Femme d'un courage incroyable face à l'adversité qu'elle m'a légué : toujours aller de l'avant même quand tout semble perdu! Tout cela valait bien de la mettre à l'honneur une héroïne du quotidien qui est partie rejoindre son époux, emporté trop jeune par la sclérose en plaques, il y a presque dix ans déjà...

La photo doit avoir été prise à Blankenberge en 1975 ou 1976 et ne me demandez pas ce que c'est que pourquoi je tiens la main de cette manière... 😅

J'en ferai un #MerCredi d'un autre genre pour une fois!

🇬🇧 A hundred years ago today, the most extraordinary woman I have ever known was born: my maternal grandmother (who was also my godmother). I can even say that she was a mother to me and without her, I would not be who I am today! Woman of incredible courage facing the adversity, a gift she gave me anyway : always move forward even when all seems lost! I found it was worth honoring her today. She was an everyday hero and left this life almost ten years ago already.She certainly found back her husband who died too young of multiple sclerosis.

The photo must have been taken in Blankenberge in 1975 or 1976 and don't ask me why I hold my hand like that... 😅

Take the ferry in winter, go on the outside deck despite the cold and wind. Look at the small lines of passing islands on the horizon.

🇫🇷 Un vieux "Polaroid" de 1977 pris depuis la location de vacances à De Panne (BE). Et à titre de comparaison, une carte postale de la même avenue. Et en voyant le nom "Robinson", j'ai des souvenirs qui ont refait surface. Un drôle de sentiment à vrai dire!
