Vorsicht, hier kommt ein #Raubtier! 🦡 Der Europäische #Dachs (#MelesMeles) gehört zur Familie der #Marder und ist in weiten Teilen Europas sowie bis nach Westasien verbreitet – sogar bis Afghanistan. Sein Lieblingsessen? 🍽️ Hauptsächlich #Regenwürmer, aber auch #Insekten, #Früchte und kleine Wirbeltiere stehen auf dem Speiseplan.

Früher galt der Dachs als elbisches Seelentier, und man sagte seinem Fell magische Kräfte nach. ✨ Gezähmte Dachse wurden früher manchmal zur Jagd eingesetzt, ähnlich wie #Dackel.

#Badgers don't hibernate, but they do go into a kind of sleepy lethargy enabling them to sleep for days through the worst of the winter weather. Sensible! Here are four badgers, curled up together, safely embraced by the roots of an #oak.

Vaig veure al camp un cau que pensava que podria ser de teixons, així que vaig posar una càmera de trampeig i van aparéixer dos teixons que pareixien de pas i van investigar bé la càmera. No era el cau, però vaig tindre sort.

The badgers are still rejecting standard measurements according to my inbox: "Cubs are now a month old, about the size of a small pineapple, and developing their first teeth and iconic stripes." Fruit is the new cubic unit. 🍍 🦡

Badgers reject both metric and imperial weights according to my inbox: "Newborn cubs are 15-16 cm long with a 3-4 cm tail, and between the weight of a kiwi or an orange." I can only speculate where the badgers are getting out of season fruit for comparison. 🥝 🦡 🍊
