Matsuo et al. perform comparative genomics and phylogenetic analyses of eukaryote paralogous DNA recombinases Rad51 and meiosis-specific DMC1, showing they resolve separately from any archaeal RadA sequences.

The protease separase plays an important role in cleaving cohesin complexes that hold chromosomes together during cell division. This study analyses the temporal regulation of separase activity during meiosis and shows that SGO2 does not inhibit separase in oocytes, in contrast to its suggested role in mitosis.
"Our findings suggest a potential mechanism of homologous chromosome pairing during meiosis in allopolyploid parthenogenesis. This research provides insights into the evolutionary adaptations and genetic mechanisms underlying parthenogenesis in reptilian species, challenging traditional views on reproductive strategies and genomic evolution in asexual organisms."
