#medstodon, does anyone have reliable data on how kids moles and freckles develop normally and abnormally?

My 7yo #autistic #PDA child has one freckle on his face starting to darken, and he's currently on strike from going anywhere by car or bus, so I can't currently easily take him to the GP, and I don't want to force him to go and stress us all out, only to turn out I'm overreacting.

I'd Google or Bing, but, y'know... Glue on pizza, etc...

If NAC prevents the metabolites of acetaminophen from killing the liver and is the (sole?) remedy for acetaminophen overdose, and

accidental acetaminophen overdose is in fact the common problem it apparently is, due to its narrow therapeutic window and the fact that manufacturers shove acetaminophen into all sorts of pharmaceutical products, and

NAC, despite being an FDA approved drug, is also available over the counter as a nutritional supplement (?), then...

Why not just include NAC in all acetaminophen products? Wouldn't doing that just make acetaminophen overdose impossible? Is this actually, pharmacologically, a good idea? Should I be writing a letter to the FDA proposing this?

My wife has severe asthma. I have moderate asthma. We live in a city with a decent amount of pollution, and both experienced increased symptoms after moving here. I’m trying to research air purifiers but everything is either marketing material or too technical/specific to help me.

First things first:
- I can’t make anything worse with a HEPA filter, right?

Also:
- Ionisers are fine as long as they don’t emit too much ozone, right?

But mostly I wonder:
- Some kind of plasma technology which disperses reactive oxygen species in the air seems to be alll the rage, but wouldn’t those same ROS cause damage to our skin and mucous membranes? As an oncologist my DNA damage warning clocks are ringing. 😮

Does anyone have access to the full text of https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(23)00404-X ? The abstract doesn’t make sense to me. It’s about opioid pain relief for acute back or neck pain, but at which points were pain measured? At 6w or continuously? Regularly or randomly? “…analysed in all eligible participants who provided at least one post-randomisation pain score, by use of a repeated measures linear mixed model” implies the latter, but that seems shoddy to me. Surely the first few days are the ones where intense pain is likely, and where patients might need opioids, whereas obviously long-term use should be avoided? Or maybe “at least one measure” just means they include the first few scores from participants who then dropped out?
