@medievalists I need help finding sources - I'm planning a lesson on Poe's the Pit and the Pendulum, and I want some material covering #medievaltorture. I know you often say that it is overstated and there's writing from the time denouncing it, but I am not finding anything except Peter's article which isn't safe for school because it's mostly about the pear of pain. Any recommendations? This is for Grade 11 (16-17 year old) ELA students with little to no medieval history. #inquisition #confess
