I took this inside of St Patrick's Cathedral when I was there, earlier this year. Built between 1220 and 1260, the Cathedral is one of the few buildings left of the medieval city of Dublin. Saint Patrick’s Cathedral began receiving regimental colors in the 1850s, representing Regiments who had fought in the Napoleonic wars. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, more flags were laid up (added) in the Cathedral; this tradition continues today. When I was there, they said that they leave the flags up until they fall off their poles because β€œSoldiers do not die, they simply fade away”. That is the reason why they look the way they do.

Someone hacked at this Medieval sheep cervical (neck) vertebra A LOT, trying to separate the head region from rest of the body.

Maybe sharpen that cleaver for next time, eh?
