Japanese media artist Yuki Anai uses light and sound with and by means of sensory technology. His installations are predominantly inspired by nature. He sees elements such as the sea or rain as messages whose meaning he decodes in his works.

His projects have received the Asia Digital Award, the Best Award of Smart Illumination, and an invited exhibition at the Ars Electronica Festival.

I love Molitor & Kuzmin's style of stuffing a box, vessel or room full of fluorescents. This stuffed attic, called Signal, is part of the 24 hour light art museum at Kunstmuseum Celle.

Hans Kotter's Triple-Cube is far from auto-rainbow-effect colour explosions the led-allowed possibilities often lure artists into. It is colourful, yes, but the combinations are premeditated, ending up at deliberate compositions rather than going all overkill about it.

Back to Celle and its 24 hour light art museum! One of the artworks seen at Celle Railway station, a part of the said museum, is, or rather are, Boris Petrovsky's Iconeon 36, 26 and 28. Even though quite new (2024) the artworks could be called classic: abstract play of colours and shapes.

Niko Tiainen's Translucens has become somewhat a light art festival hit. And rightly so! It does have a component of wow, but in a unique and simple way. Less is more, even in a spectacle! Here seen at Lumen, Rauma.

From Helsinki straight to a another metropol, Rauma, and its Lumen festival! This is the fourth edition (I think) I see, and it's getting better and better. Hooray for the artists and curator Annukka Ketola!

Merja Ala-Olla's Wish (Toive) was a very good start for her career in light! And since there was four light art curators present, a selfie was unavoidable.

Sébastien Lefèvre's Soleil nuit Albireo is one of the artworks that will stay here as permanent public artworks after Lux Helsinki, which is great!

Installing a permanent artwork is way more complicated than installing a festival one, and that's why it takes time. Soleil is the third artpiece to stay here, but even the first one isn't installed yet. Let's hope the schedule of having all of them installed this spring will hold!

Seth and Irene From Kaleider had their so far largest installation of Twist and Shine in Lux Helsinki. And oh boy, does the large volume work great with this piece! It was such a contagious joy to see kids and adults alike play with the glowing particles!

Lux Helsinki has cooperated with The Finnish Light Art Society FLASH in creating small exhibitions of light art in Kannelmäki Cultural house for some years. This year, there was this wonderful piece by Kirsti Taiviola, a glass bird flying crudely animated, and 3D shadows by Risto Puurunen. The shadows don't really work in photos, that's something you definitely need to see in person.
