¿Sabían que en la mitología griega, la figura de Medea no siempre fue retratada como una mujer que termina con la vida de sus propios hijos, sino que esta versión fue una innovación dramática de Eurípides para su tragedia del año 431 a. C.?

En las tradiciones orales y registros históricos anteriores, los hijos de Medea y Jasón morían a manos de los ciudadanos de Corinto como represalia por los actos de su madre o por un accidente ritual en el templo de Hera, donde Medea intentaba hacerlos inmortales. Existen registros documentales que sugieren que Eurípides recibió un pago de quince talentos de plata por parte de los corintios para modificar el relato y limpiar el nombre de su ciudad, trasladando la culpa absoluta del acto hacia la figura de la hechicera de la Cólquide.

Desde una perspectiva genealógica, Medea es nieta de Helios, el dios sol, y sobrina de Circe, lo que la sitúa en el linaje de las deidades solares poseedoras del "pharmakon" o conocimiento de las sustancias naturales. Su dominio sobre los venenos y las artes de la transformación no era considerado algo sobrenatural en el contexto de la época, sino una ciencia antigua vinculada a la naturaleza y a la genealogía divina que le permitía manipular la biología y la materia según su voluntad.
