You want to pick a lining that goes with your main fabric- for example, a silky rayon bemberg is a perfect match for this medium-weight wool coating. For a cotton eyelet, a smooth and lightweight cotton fabric would complement it well. For a rain jacket, a removable flannel lining might be just the thing!⁠

New pants!

These are the Morden pants from @threadtheorydesigns . It's a new pattern for me and these are essentially a wearable mock-up made of some leftover fabric from another project.

These have lots of clever details (articulated knees! Gusseted construction! Extra pockets! Reinforced knees!) that made them a little more complicated to sew than my previous pants patterns.

The instructions were pretty great. I really appreciate that the included instructions for various length adjustments. Probably I should have adjusted the rise, but I decided to make them (mostly) as written the first time.

They're comfy enough, though I might play with the fit at the waist a little more yet. Removing several inches at the waist was the one adjustment I didn't have a choice about making. I'm thinking an elasticised back waist might help too.

This cotton-linen canvas wanted to be something dramatic so I took my favourite 1918 skirt and stuck it together with a good enough pants pattern and this is what came out.

The 90s called and said "...wtf?"

How to cut and press double gauze (without losing those lovely crinkles!): ⁠

Step 1: Pre-wash and dry your fabric.⁠
⁠
Step 2: Use a steamy iron to remove any major folds. Either lift and set down the iron on those spots (not running it over the fabric) or just use the steam and finger press the big folds out. Try to preserve the crinkly texture as much as you can!⁠

Step 3: Cut out your pattern pieces!⁠
⁠
Keeping the crinkles in will give you a better idea of how the final garment will fit. Use your iron minimally, or just finger press it! Part of the beauty of double gauze is crinkliness, so it makes sense to work with it. ⁠
