Im März 1854 veröffentliche sie im Dublin University Magazine einen 25seitigen Artikel über ihren berühmten Cousin und die Entdeckung der #Nordwestpassage.

#Hawaii: Den 4. Juli 1850 hatte #Miertsching zunächst auf einer Feier der amerikanischen Missionare verbracht, wo er sich lange mit der jungen Prinzessin Elizabeth Kekaaniau Laanui unterhielt. Zu seinem Leidwesen aber war er von Kapitän #McClure zurück aufs Schiff beordert worden und musste die Feier vorzeitig verlassen. Noch am Abend stach #HMSInvestigator in See, und am 5. Juli befand sie sich bereits auf Kurs #Aleuten und #Arktis.

But maybe not quite the first. #HMSInvestigator had spent weeks at Ballast Beach in summer 1851, with the crews exploring the landscape around and inbound, collecting plants, fossils etc; also collecting ballast for the ship - therefore the name.
