I've posted an open letter to #MayorMamdani's newly created Office of Mass Engagement urging that “mass engagement” mean more than better public-input collection.
The post argues for an open-source, federated civic infrastructure (that expands beyond the narrow social-posting scope much of the #Fediverse still reproduces): locally grounded civic commons for mutual aid, public memory, deliberation, collaboration, accountability, and community self-organization.

AnneTheWriterI recall seeing news stories that he is also opening up more public bathrooms, so people didn't have to buy something or pay to pee. The other idea was that it would cut down on people defecating and urinating in public and in parks.
At the very least, that would also seem to make it much more tourist-friendly, bringing in more tourist dollars.
And we're not talking germy, stinky #PortAPotties here with nowhere to wash your hands-- he wants actual public bathrooms with sinks and flushing toilets.

Pic one is almost a week ago; 9th Ave was shut down from 48(?) down to 42nd, at first I thought to force traffic out to 11th Ave (southbound) because of the bottleneck on 9th at 42nd (cuz of pipes going under 42nd at 8th, 9th, and 10th)!
But it was to toughen up our surface and prep the underlayer. Behold before and after pics.
