On #MayDay2024, we are seeing anti-war students discredited by leaders and being attacked by police, income inequality at an all-time high, right-wing political parties (and left-center NYC mayors) toying with fascism, genocide of brown people happily endorsed by our leaders, and a decline in Americans’ overall quality of life.

But there is hope. Unions are once again forming in the American South; workers’ collective bargaining is winning against company owners’ collective shit. Student protests have never been on the wrong side of history — not in 1968, not in 2011, and certainly not now. Javier Milei is facing backlash, Joe Biden is struggling with anti-genocide protestors, and Donald Trump is still grappling with the reality that he, like everyone, is not above the law.

As it has been every year since 1886, it’s still a #MayDay Let us not rest on our laurels, though. Strike and protest if you can, support if you can’t, and read this quarter’s issue of The Socialist when time allows.
