As Guam and the rest of the Marianas islands prepare for what's shaping up to be a major typhoon in the next few days, I present the calm before the storm from nearly 3 years ago.

These photos were taken at the beach near our home the day of Typhoon Mawar on Guam before the storm reached. The dramatic colors, massive storm in the distance, and the general calm and quiet was a surreal experience. The storm that followed was brutal.

I hope this incoming storm spares as many people as possible across #Guam #Saipan #Tinian #Rota #marianasislands and that the calm before the storm is just a #silentsunday but nothing more.

Good news from the Central Weather Bureau of #Taiwan regarding typhoon #Mawar. The typhoon warning was cancelled after Mawar changed direction away from Taiwan. Now I worry about the areas that are in its new path.
