Will the Dallas Mavericks, or something else, breathe new life into Valley View?
With 110 acres in between downtown and the suburbs, the site is ripe for redevelopment.
New Dallas Mavericks arena would bring Las Vegas to Texas — minus gambling
Will this be a Las Vegas-style resort destination?
"Yes, it has to be working 365 days a year. When I say ‘entertainment district,’ I’m talking about a ton of restaurant opportunities, at least a hotel, maybe even a smaller arena for smaller performances less than 18,000 seats. There has to be reasons to come down there other than a Mavericks game."
Valley View mall area North Dallas would be pretty ideal for this big of an entertainment district aside from it not being downtown. But the Dallas Stars are likely going to Plano. So maybe downtown doesn't have the draw it once did.
“We want to open in 2031. That means we’re on the clock. Sounds like a long time, but for a 50-acre mixed-use entertainment district, an arena, public gathering places — we’re on the clock.”
