New guitar week!

New to me anyway, this is a 1975 Greco SE-600N, made in the Fujigen factory’s equivalent of a custom shop. This is of course their copy of a Stratocaster, and almost as old as me.

It has an ash body and rosewood fretboard, and is a pretty heft piece of work. That probably accounts for the lovely resonance and it also has those fizzy, sparkling Maxon pickups. It’ll get a string change tomorrow to my usual flatwounds, and a light setup. Not much needing done to it at all.

Turns out I’m a sucker for well-made Japanese vintage guitars…

Do you know what kind of lever goes on this vibrato tailpiece from a Japanese lawsuit SG from around 1970?
Can you show me a picture of one?
Bonus would be where I could get one. And a proper bridge. And a bridge pickup.

Still kinda sad I found an interesting Ibanez 2030 short scale #bass locally for cheap but the person never replied to my message (even sent shortly after posting) and then yanked listing.

It kind of matched all my requirements - short scale since I want to see if that helps with my back and hands, it's definitely something different than the normal and it was quite cheap. I have a number of other oddball basses so it would have been right at home with some early 80s #matsumoku basses and a late 90s #ibanez #sr800

Ah well, I guess I'll just have to be patient and see what else floats around the local markets. Sometimes interesting things do show up.

I’ve become so enamoured of this 1981 Epiphone Emperor T (thinline) made in the Matsumoku factory in Japan, a real pinnacle of the Japanese luthier’s artistry. It plays like a dream, has such a warm tone, and carries the longest sustain of any guitar I’ve ever played.

It’s done. Disassembled and body cleaned, brass parts polished up, fretboard oiled, electronics checked, restringed with some nice flatwounds, truss rod tweaked, string height fixed and intonation corrected.

Progress:
1. Glued in the neck block.
2. Glued in two floating englmann spruce quarter sawn braces from the neck to tail block. I learned that these late 60’s early 70’s MIJ #Matsumoku thin lines usually have a neck joint flex issue. Found 1 #luthier that installed a floating rod from neck to tail block and reported success. Since I had the top off anyway, I’m trying this. #luthiery #guitar #GuitarRepair
