Stardate 7578.23 -- The Enterprise encounters a race known as the Quaternions, who are invited for dinner and a tour. The Quaternions abruptly change their personality depending on what they're doing, from diplomacy to observation to problem solving.

Dr. Crusher discovers that they have evolved an advanced form of multiple personality disorder, with each Quaternion having a Real part and three Imaginary parts.

"Wait until you meet the Octonions,” one said.
