#Petition to NZ government about AI safety:

This sight unfortunately asks for donations before signatures can be counted and this petition is really struggling to gain traction. Should I make my own petition using Action Station?
The more I learn about the potential risks of AI, it’s easy to begin to feel like some of it is inevitable. I don’t know if a super intelligent AI will one day decide to eliminate humans, but I do know that humans will try to use AI to destroy one another. And what might be possible- bio weapons, autonomous killing machines, greater power to the rich at the expense of the poor, is quite terrifying. A big problem is - if one country decides to legally ban certain uses of AI, and others don’t, they’ve just shot themself in the foot.
And even if you don’t want to believe in that, you might look out your window and realise that you’re in the middle of the most volatile weather we’ve ever had which are only getting worse because of human activity and in fact, now largely driven by extremely power and resource hungry AI technology.
But the worst hasn’t happened yet, so it isn’t inevitable. I woke up this morning, I’m here now, so I have an opportunity and a responsibility to do something about it.
@Niall Yeah, I said that three times. Each time before a catastrophic outage. However, now I have a plan. Everything is getting moved out of a datacenter before I touch anything in that datacenter. Unfortunately both #mastodonau and #mastodonnz are pinned to specific datacenters because of ... technical reasons. Hence the 3am plan.
@Heliograph does not agree that it's a good idea, but I'm having a few scotches now BECAUSE I HAVE HAD A SHIT FEW DAYS.
