I never use the application names in any of my servers because I'm always worried about future trademark enforcement.
The Mastodon organization guidelines at https://joinmastodon.org/trademark say:
Do not use or register, in whole or in part, the Mastodon marks as part of your own or any other trademark, service mark, domain name, company name, trade name, product name, or service name.
When I search the database here for instances known to this server that contain "mastodon" in their domain names, I see over 1,800 server names. And it's unknown if they would consider "mstdn" to be a violation as well.
I wonder how far they will push this enforcement. A Mastodon server cannot change its domain name.

we have struggled for awhile with how to make instancewide information salient - announcements aren't exactly that, and many ppl don't know they exist. in particular we wanted to do voting within the instance, but we would have to go and boost the poll a bunch of times and only a few people ended up seeing it.
so this lil change might be of general interest to small instances out there - added the ability for moderators to sticky/unsticky posts and have them stay at the top of local and home feeds. we'll trial it out and see how it goes.
🟧 also, honourable mention to @andypiper, who helped start this entire thing! there wouldn't be an anniversary to celebrate without you
remember: the word "fuck" is such a powerful COC violation that it is capable of overpowering even a project that gives a "Frick" about accessibility. in case you're looking to write about the topic, you can use a title like this: "Mastodon accessibility concerns disrupted by powerful fuck" or "powerful fuck leads to 3-month anniversary of 6-character Mastodon accessibility change"
even in the face of evidence-based accessibility changes, things can still be halted by a single fuck that was given!
thanks to @MastodonEngineering for curating such a great team!
#Pachli Current now highlights the hashtags you follow. Within a post any hashtags you follow are shown in bold. The info area above a post shows a hash-marker and the first followed tag in the post.
This helps answer the "Why is this post in my timeline?" question.
The attached screenshot shows an example with the #mastodev hashtag.
Thanks to @neatnit, @_nibbles, and @quaff for the suggestions about this.
what up if any #mastodev or rails or redux knowers are around here, we are trying to do somethign super simple that might be generally useful for small instances: we want to potentially move instancewide votes onto the instance rather than a separate loomio instance, but to make that possible we have to make sticky posts where a vote can be pinned to the top of everyone's feeds.
this should be super simple but for the life of me i can't make heads or tails of this damned redux thing. if anyone is kind enough to take a look or help me finish this, i will pay you back by trying to pull this up to glitch so everyone can have it
