I've been getting emails from C&R and Showcase, I don't know how they got my address (from Submittable, probably, but who knows). I was just deleting them, but damn, I didn't think it was this bad.

My love's in flood.
My love's gone tired,
My love is crying blood.

My love's on fire,
She's ashes on the ground.

You look away.

You look skyward, you look to space.
You look skyward, not to heal but to replace.
You look skyward, to move on somewhere new.

A shadow crossed upon my path
As through the forest I walked
I told what it was I sought
At my petty dreams it balked
Though virtuous it I thought
Seeking knowledge, truth untold
Wisdom is for wisdom's sake
Or such I took for bold
So when that shadow I did meet
And heard its thoughts unkind
Forsook I did my will to treat
My journey of the mind
