First up is Anatahan (1953), directed by Josef von Sternberg, his last film, starring Akemi Negishi, Tadashi Suganuma, Kisaburō Sawamura, and Shōji Nakayama. Based on a true story of Japanese holdouts on an island after WWII.

Second, Thérèse Raquin (1980), a miniseries directed by Simon Langton, starring Brian Cox, Emily Washbourne, Kate Nelligan, Alan Rickman, and many other classic British actors. It's based on an Emile Zola story of the same name.
