I've largely ignored Mary Chapin Carpenter's last few albums. All the songs sounded the same. But recently I listened to "Personal History" as a series of tone poems and it was a revelation.

I'm close to her age. Her meditations on getting older -- memories, regrets, losses, appreciations -- resonate strongly with me.
