Our material conditions in the fediverse are such that dedicated socialists are barely present.
As the reasons I see a variety of facts:
- the fediverse is predominantly developed and used in the capitalist west
- socialism has been under attack in the west pretty much since its inception
- the capitalist history revisionism has diluted what socialism means for a lot of people in the west

Liam O'Mara IV, PhDOn #ThisDayInHistory in 1961, leader of the #CubanRevolution #FidelCastro broadcast a speech across #Cuba in which he declared himself explicitly to be a #MarxistLeninist intent on adopting a form of state-centred #Communism in the Caribbean country.
On #ThisDayInHistory in 2016 the government of #Colombia and the #FARC signed a peace deal that probably satisfied no-one but did end a conflict that began in 1964. Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia began in 1948 as an #AntiImperialist #MarxistLeninist peasant defence force.

C.Well, the polls across the country have closed, and results continue to trickle in. In the race of greatest interest to everyone, here's where things stand:
Communist: 338
Marxist-Leninist: 362
As you can see, Team Karl really did put in the extra effort and managed to retake the lead after looking like a certain loser earlier in the evening.

It's nice to see that both of the Marijuana Party's supporters managed to make it to the polls before they closed. The Rhinoceros Party managed to retake their lead from the Libertarians after some nervous times earlier on.
The real hero of the evening is the No Affiliation Party, flirting with 3-digit votes. Maybe they can pull it off before this thing is over.
