After breakfast at the Crowne Plaza Sapporo, we visited Maruyama Park & the Hokkaido Shrine. After, we explored the city center, saw preparations for the Sapporo Snow Festival, and saw winter illuminations.

Just One Day in Sapporo

After breakfast at the Crowne Plaza Sapporo, we headed to Maruyama Park and the Hokkaido Shrine. After, we explored the city center where we saw preparations for the annual Sapporo Snow Festival. We had lunch and dinner and saw some of the city's winter illuminations.

9) The Weeping Cherry (枝垂れ桜)🏞️🏮

Maruyama-kōen's (円山公園) famous 70-year old shidare-zakura (枝垂桜 'weeping cherry') is one of the city's most recognizable trees.
The original tree was 200 years old when it withered in 1947. In 1949 Sano Tōemon (佐野藤右衛門) planted the tree we see today.

For Hanatōro around 2400 lanterns would stretch from Shōren-in (青蓮院) to Kiyomizu-dera (清水寺), via Maruyama Park (円山公園-where there are displays of ikebana 生け花), Kōdai-ji (高台寺), Ninnenzaka (二年坂) and Sannenzaka (三年坂).
