Zerocalcare brings “Two Spicci” to the Circo Massimo: thousands for a pop party.

AGI - The Circus Massimo had transformed into a giant 80s and 90s pop arena. Thousands of fans, already arrived from late afternoon, filled one of Rome’s iconic locations for the launch of *Due Spicci*, the new series directed and created by Zerocalcare: one of the most anticipated titles of the summer on Netflix and which will arrive with 8 episodes from May 27th on the streaming platform.

A pop arena between video games and nostalgia

From 5 p.m. onwards, the public invaded the historic arena, where instead of gladiators there were arcade cabinets, neon lights, and cult video games. A large open-air arcade, with improvised ping pong matches, selfies, and shared memories in front of the screens that shaped a generation.

Zerocalcare and the selection of cult video games

The behind-the-scenes was revealed by Zerocalcare himself, who recounted having personally participated in the selection of the games: “I asked that there be absolutely Metal Slug and those related to Marvel.” A choice in full nerd and nostalgic style, faithful to the imagery that has always characterized his work.

Many familiar faces were seen backstage: Carolina Crescentini, Maria Chiara Giannetta, Marta Filippi, Michele Riondino, director Davide Marengo, as well as Mayor Roberto Gualtieri, who embraced the author, calling the Circus Massimo “a beautiful day.”

The premiere of the first three episodes

The most anticipated moment was the absolute premiere of the first three episodes. On stage, in front of a packed and warm audience, Zerocalcare appeared visibly moved: a debut that confirmed the deep bond between the Roman author and his audience, and the huge anticipation surrounding the project.

Episodes that convince the audience, who laugh and applaud in front of the animated style and the deep irony typical of Michele Rech’s stories. This time, it’s about stories related to crime, of parenthood that upsets the friendships of the protagonists, and also of romantic relationships. A third season, if possible, more adult, but always funny in a disreverent way.

The ending with Coez and Giancane

Coez and Giancane closed out the evening with a series of medleys that had the entire arena singing and dancing. The Circus Massimo thus transformed into a collective party: for Netflix, much more than a simple premiere, but the launch of what promises to be one of the summer’s pop phenomena in Italy, in the style of what was seen with the first two seasons.
