Today for #MarshMadness I've painted a backswimmer, Notonecta glauca. These leggy dudes are named for, well, the way they flip over and swim on their backs, using those long back legs as paddles. Thin hairs all over the body trap a film of air that allows it to breathe underwater.

Another great day saltmarsh restoration planting on the Eden Estuary, many thanks to today’s volunteers- the polytunnel grown plants now out in the wild to fend for themselves (with a little protection from the waves by the fencing)
