Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris) is a member of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae) and grows in wetlands. It is pollinated by numerous insects.
All members of this family contain the toxin protoanemonin, which can cause rashes and blisters on skin or more severe effects if ingested raw.
The plant is edible if the young greens are cooked, which neutralizes the toxins and it was called "Cowslip" in earlier eras.

Marsh Marigold c. 1915 United States, by Hannah Borger Overbeck 1870-1931, one of the Overbeck sisters (Margaret, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Mary Frances), potters and artists of the Arts and Crafts Movement who established Overbeck Pottery in Cambridge City, Indiana in 1911.
