#ESA's #RosalindFranklin will start digging holes in Mars some time after its 2028 launch, if everything goes according to the agency's newest plan. Which, by the way, depends on NASA providing space transportation from Earth to Mars for the #ExoMars Lander + Rosalind Franklin rover.

Its landing location in Oxia Planum is about 3000km from the Underhill and 1330km from DaVinci, both cities in #KSR's #MarsTrilogy #SciFi universe (see map).

By the way, John Boone, the first human to set foot on Mars (in #KimStanleyRobinson's #MarsTrilogy) was from Minnesota, born there in 1983.

That place became a huge island after Mars got areoformed in #KimStanleyRobinson's #GreenMars .

The map shows a number of places from the #MarsTrilogy, the canal that filled Hellas Planitia with water from the north, and the trip that Sax and Coyote took together to see the making of the canal by the "soletta", the space lens that burnt rock.

The first colonization of Mars occurred, in #KSR's fiction, in 2026.

This animation shows the shadow of Phobos based on one of Andrea's images, and then zooms in on the area covered by the shadow. Notice the huge amphitheater built inside that half collapsed 7km wide crater after the war with fascist Transnationals (#KSR's #MarsTrilogy ? Nope, I just made it up 😎)
