For example, in Washington DC, the Moon will occult (pass in front of) Mars between 02h 16m UTC (21:16 local time) and 03h 30m UTC (22:30 local time).
Popular astronomy: the Moon and the planet Mars will appear very close together tomorrow night (Monday evening/Tuesday morning). For me, in Britain, they will appear closest around 04h 30m UTC about 0.5 deg apart (centre to centre).
Some locations will experience an occultation, when the Moon passes directly in front of Mars. This will happen just hours after the Moon is full.
My first planetary occultation, the Moon scooting by Mars this morning from 12:35am to 1:24am. Clouds made for a terrible first approach, but clear skies let me get this wonderful view of Mars returning from behind the Moon at the end of the occultation.
