Sultan Barakat, professor of public policy at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, says that the US announcement of a maritime aid corridor to Gaza is meant to distract people from the fact that there are trucks full of aid at the Egyptian border. β€œI think it’s one of the main purposes for making this announcement at this particular time,” he told Al Jazeera, adding that it also helps US President Joe Biden domestically β€œgiven the pressure on him to say something constructive related to Palestine. β€œHe had hoped to present a ceasefire. That wasn’t happening, so this was a convenient second choice.” Subscribe to our channel: http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera Check our website: http://www.aljazeera.com/ Check out our Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/aljazeeraenglish/ Download AJE Mobile App: https://aje.io/AJEMobile #aljazeeraenglish #BreakingNews #aljazeeralivenews #aljazeeraenglish #palestine #newsfeed #news #aljazera #latestnews #gaza #israel

The humanitarian situation in #Gaza is dire, with innocent Palestinian families and children desperate for basic necessities. That is why today, the European Commission, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, the Republic of Cyprus, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States announce our intent to open a #maritimecorridor to deliver much-needed additional amounts of humanitarian assistance by sea.
