Singer-guitarist, South Caroline native Marcus King is a musician who finds its core in the blues and draws further inspiration from traditional rock. His music is steeped in the Southern rock sound that reflects the spirit of the early '70s, harkening back to bands like The Allman Brothers Band and a handful of others from that period. One can also pick up Bad Company influences in his songs that go beyond the Paul Rodgers type inflection in his vocals. To his credit, King manages to hold his own admirably when compared to such classic artists, especially with his guitar work, which is where he shines the most. His 2024 album Mood Swings finds him taking on a jazzier playing style while also opening up to a classic soul sound more overtly.
